Digital Songbook


This document describes the functionality of the Digital Songbook App. The functionality is described in the paragraphs below.


The Main screen


The main screen shows the songs that are currently stored in the Digital Songbook App database and this form looks as follows:










































The main screen contains the following items/functionalities:

Description


Song bar

Shows the title and the artist of a song. By touching the song bar the App displays the music (pages) that had been added to the song


Search bar

Can be used to search for a specific song. Both song name and artist name are included in the search. It is possible to enter only a part of the song / artist name for the search.


Add song

A new song can be added by touching this icon. The App will navigate to the Add/Edit song screen. On this screen you will be able to enter a new song.


Edit song

You can edit an already existing song by touching this icon. The App will navigate to the Add/Edit song screen. On this screen you will be able to edit the song.


Watch Youtube

By touching this icon the App will navigate to the Youtube results screen. The App will search Youtube on the song name and artist and the results are shown in a list. The Youtube functionality can only be used if the App detects an active internet connection.


Edit mode

By touching this icon you can put the song grid in edit mode. In this mode it is possible to delete a song from the Digital Songbook database by first touching the small delete icon on the left side of the to be deleted song and then touching the 'Delete' box on the right.


Settings

By touching this icon the App will navigate to the Settings screen of the Digital Songbook App


Genres

By touching this icon the App will navigate to the Genre screen. This screen can be used to maintain the various Genres which can be selected during the adding/editing of a song.


Playlist

By touching this icon the App will navigate to the Playlist screen. In this screen you can create / maintain you own playlists


Favorites Playlist

By touching this icon the App will navigate to the Favorites playlist. You can add songs to this list by touching the icon in the Add/Edit song form or by adding a song via the Favorites playlist.


Recently played Playlist

By touching this icon the App will navigate to the Recently played playlist. If you select a song for playing the songs is added automatically to this playlist


Open Dropbox App

Opens the DropBox App which will allow you to import a song in PDF format from Dropbox. The icon is only visible if an active internet connection is detected and in case Dropbox is enabled in the Settings screen*


Backup / Restore

Opens the backup /restore screen. In this screen you can create backups of the Digital Songbook database (locally on the device and remotely on Dropbox). It is also possible to restore a backup.


Info

Shows information about the Digital Songbook version and copyrights


*Dropbox functionality. This functionality can only be used if you have created a Dropbox account on the Dropbox website (www.dropbox.com) and if you have installed the Dropbox App on your device. The Dropbox App is available for free on the AppStore.


The Add/Edit Song screen


The Add/Edit song screen can be used to add a new song to the Digital Songbook database or to edit an existing song. The screen looks as follows:










































The Add/Edit song screen contains the following functionalities:

Song name text box

You can enter the title of a song here


Song artist text box

You can enter the name of the song artist here


Genre picker

You can select the genre of the song here. The genres which are shown in the picker can be maintained in the Genre maintenance screen.


Beats per minute slider

You can set the beats per minute for the song with help of the slider and fine tune the setting by using the + and the – sign. The beats per minute can be used in combination with the Metronome. If you click the 'Test' button the metronome starts with the configured BPM.


Add image from camera

If you touch this icon the iPad camera will be activated. This allows you to take one or more pictures of your music notes, song text, accords from the source (songbook, music sheet, etc.). After you have taken a picture, the App will ask you whether you want to use this picture (Use photo) or to retake the picture (Retake). You can also decide to dismiss the camera (cancel). If you decide to use a particular picture (Use photo), the pictures gets added to the images you has already added to the song. You can view the new image in the image list which is shown below the 'Add image from camera' icon.


Add image from gallery

If you touch this icon the App will allow you to select one of the images/pictures which are already stored in the image collection of the device (Photos). If you select one of the photos and touch 'Use' the selected photo gets added to the song's images. You can view the new image in the image list which is shown below the 'Add image from camera' icon.


Add image from Dropbox

If you touch this icon the Dropbox App will open. In the Dropbox App you will be able to select a PDF or PNG/JPG file for importing into the Digital Songbook App. If you select a PDF, PNG or JPG file the images in that file will be added to the already existing images of the song. This icon is visible only if an active internet connection is available and if you have indicated that you want to use Dropbox.


Image bar

Shows the images that have been added to the song (by using the camera, gallery or Dropbox import). You can added as many images as you like to your song. If you touch the Image bar, the image is shown in the Song display view.


Apply button

By touching this button the song and its attributes/pictures will be stored in the Digital Songbook database.


Cancel button

By touching this button any changes made to the song will be rollbacked and the Add/Edit song screen is dismissed: the Main screen will be shown again.


Edit mode

By touching this icon you can put the picture grid in edit mode. In this mode it is possible to delete a picture for the song by first touching the small delete icon on the left side of the to be deleted picture and then touching the 'Delete' box on the right.


Add song to Favorites

By touching this icon the song will be added to the Favorites playlist. The icon will change to a silver color to indicate that the song has been added to the Favorites playlist.


Export song to Dropbox

By touching this icon it is possible to export a song to Dropbox. The song will be exported to the /DigitalSongbook folder in Dropbox. Using Dropbox the song can be shared by multiple devices running Digital Songbook and also by multiple people which have access to the particular Dropbox via their accounts. This icon is visible only if an active internet connection is available and if you have indicated that you want to use Dropbox.


Play/Display song screen


The Play/Display song screen allows you to browse through all the images which you have added to a song. Furthermore it will allow you to switch on the metronome. The Play/Display song screen can be invoked by touching the Song bar in the main screen. The Play/Display song screen looks as follows:
